The first step in any situation where you are looking for legal advice is to book a consultation with a reputable lawyer. A legal consultation with GK allows you to explain your situation, ask any questions you may have, and get advice as to the best way for you to move forward. A consultation will help you determine whether you should hire a lawyer to help with your situation and whether the lawyer you are considering is the right fit.
Our aim is to help you understand your legal options better and make an informed decision as to how you would like to proceed.
What is a Consultation?
A consultation session is an opportunity for a lawyer to hear all about your situation and your potential case as well as an opportunity for you to ask questions, get clarification on anything that you are unsure about, and simply get to know your potential lawyers and get comfortable with the next steps in the legal process.
When you come to your consultation with one of our lawyers, we will provide various options for moving forward and help you to understand the pros and cons of each potential option. We will also ask you questions about yourself and your situation, including what your desired outcome is.
You will have a chance to get to know the lawyer(s) and will be able to find out whether they have the right experience and skillset for your case, as well as whether the cost will reasonably fit your budget.
Things to Remember for Your First Consultation:
Disclose everything about your situation to our lawyers and be totally honest – remember, what you tell the lawyer is confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of the firm.
Bring identification and any relevant paperwork or documents so that the lawyer can look them over.
It is a good idea to write a point-form list of all of the important details of your case so that you don’t forget anything that you should discuss during the consultation. You may not think that you will forget about anything important, but keep in mind that a great deal of information will be coming at you quickly during your consultation; this means that it is easy to get overwhelmed and something that you had planned to bring up could very easily slip your mind. It is always best to be prepared!
Write down a list of questions to ask our lawyers, too. We want you to be able to get as much as possible out of this consultation, so come equipped with a list of everything that you are wondering about.
During the consultation, take notes. Again, there will be a lot of information being presented to you and it can be hard to hold it all in your mind, so write down the most important points to refer back to later. You will be happy that you did.
